DIY Galaxy shoes

Earlier this week I was out shopping and i came across the new Vans. At least I think they are part of the new collection, I don’t know tbh. Anyway it were cosmos galaxy print Vans. They were absolutely gorgeous, but since I spent a lot of money already I couldn’t afford to buy them.

So I went on Ebay with the hopes of finding a knockoff or something, just a galaxy print shoe ! I sadly didn’t find any 😦 But I did find alot of “tutorials” and videos of people making their own pair. Since i’m quite creative myself I decided to give it a go.

IMG_1237This is basically what you need to make them.
– A pair of dark sneakers/vans/toms/…
– masking tape
– Acrylic paint : dark blue, light blue, purple, pink & white
– Sponge brushes, i just used household sponges cut into pieces.
– A toothbrush & a fine hair paintbrush
– some paper plates
– something to cover your work surface.

You start with taking out the laces of the shoes, so they don’t get paint all over them. Next thing you have to do is use the masking tape to cover up your soles, again so they stay clean and white ( failed in my case… )
Make sure the shoes are clean and then you’re ready to start.
Put all the colors in the paper plates. If you don’t have purple like me you can mix pink ( magenta) with the brightest blue you have, that should give you a nice deep purple.
And now for the hard bit…. No really it isn’t that hard 🙂 you’ll notice when you’re doing it. Paint dark blue blotches all over the shoes, big small doesn’t really matter. Just leave space in between them for the purple. So now that you got the dark blue on it we can apply some of the lighter blue on top of it, try and do only the center or the side in the darker blue. This will give you some gradient effect. After that I used a little bit of white inside the light blue to make it a bright star/light effect.
The most important thing when you are painting these shoes is the blending. Make sure all the colors blend into each other, so you don’t have any defined lines.
Now you’re done with the blue and you can start applying the purple, Just fill in the open spaces with purple. If you’re not happy with the amount of purple you have you can just paint over the blue, doesn’t really matter 🙂
Where the purple and dark blue meet i used some hot pink, not to much but just to give it that extra touch, or space dimension 😉

That’s it for a background colors. Now Over the the stars …
This is where the toothbrush comes in. First off you dampen the toothbrush, or add a tiny bit of water to the white paint so it gets a bit more fluid. Dip the toothbrush in the paint , hold your brush next to the shoes and brush over it with your finger, so the paint gets “catapulted” on the shoes. Sorry for the weird word choice but I really have no idea how else to describe it. So this movement should give you little dots that represent stars. In my case I had some big blotches of paint, but don’t worry about that. If you have enough little stars we can go over to the big ones.
If you had bigger blotches of paint like me you can now use the fine paintbrush and make them into crosses, or just leave em be as big stars. I added some extra dots with the paintbrush as stars, just for that little bit extra.

And that’s it, your own handmade galaxy shoes are ready 🙂
A little reminder though, these shoes aren’t waterproof. Best is to use some shoespray thing to make them waterproof.
Since I had a lot of paint mixed, I had quite a bit left. So i decided to make myself a nice galaxy painting with the leftovers.

Stacking The Shelves *01/01/14*

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, it’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

First of all, happy New Year everybody !

I’m going to start my new year with a book haul blog, as you can see 🙂
Before the year turned 2014 me an my parents went on a little road trip in England. We visited the area of east Kent, lots of little towns like Margate, Faversham, Rochester,…
The fun thing about these little towns is that they’re loaded with second-hand shops, charity shops,… So I did get a substantial amount of books for very little money. Here’s what i got.

IMG_1234_2From top to bottom.
The Sonnets – The penguin Shakespeare  Boule De Suif – Guy De Maupassant
One Of Our Submarines – Edward Young
The Body In The Library – Agatha Christie
Wuthering Heights – Emily Brontë
The Innocence Of Father Brown – G.K. Chesterton
The Woman Of Andres – Thornton Wilder
Mrs Croddock – W. Somerset Maugham
Rocannon’s World – Ursula Le Guin

Most of these books I bought because they are part of the Penguin series I’m collecting. Basicly all of them. Except Ursula Le Guin, which i bought because i once saw a movie about a book club where they read only Jane Austen, and one of the people there also read Ursula Le Guin, so I wanted to give it a go.
I’ll post some pictures of my entire Vintage Penguin collection soon, it hasn’t reached 3000 copies yet but I’m still pretty proud of it.

From top to bottom.
The poetical works of Keats
Short stories – Guy De Maupassant
Wuthering Heights – Emily Brontë
Vilette – Charlotte Brontë

The are the more vintage looking books I bought, I really like the “old” editions of these classics. So yes I am aware I bought Wuthering Heights twice in one trip, and if it wasn’t for the money, I would probably have bought 2 more copies.
The books I adore the most of all the books I bought is without a doubt Keats. Again I once saw a movie about his life, and I’ve been listening to poems ( on youtube ) ever since.
The other two I haven’t actually read they’re a nice addition to the collection.

The empty bookcase

daily post: source of anxiety

My biggest noise that i fear will grow silent far to soon in the noise of the emptiness.
I fear to become the empty bookcase.
To not have any memories or extreme emotions, like those possessed in the pages of the books that should have stood proud in the now empty bookcase.
The fear of not having anybody remembering me, like i remember the smell of my dearest books.

It’s not the desire to be a full on library, just to be that little vintage bookcase in someone’s home.

The anxiety of not having a full life, and knowing it’s all up to me.

Christmas Tree

So in my last post i mentioned the Christmas parties that usually involve annoying family.
Well today we handled a different and more fun bit about Christmas.

In Belgium we have this holiday called ‘Sinterklaas’ on the 6th of december, and tradition is that in the weekend after this holiday we go buy our christmas tree and decorate it. So Today is the 7th and a saturday which means we went to buy our tree. I must say every year me and my mom have some debate over the tree ( bigger ! no smaller ! ) and how to decorate it. This year was an exception, we both liked the same tree and we made the decorations in advance. We found some pins on Pinterest with some gorgeous vintage ornaments and we tried our best to make ours a bit like those.

The tree is not to heavily decorated and with just 2 type of ornaments, but we like how it’s simply, vintage and still christmasy.

christmas parties with nosy family

It’s almost that time of the year again … Christmas !
And i absolutely love christmas, i really do. The lights, the smell of the christmas trees, the songs that go along with it and of course the presents. Who wouldn’t love those 🙂
But besides all those wonderful things there is one thing i would rather skip … Every year the same question at all the family dinners ‘How is your love life doing ? seeing anyone yet ?’ and every year i have to give them the same answer ‘no i’m not seeing anyone at the moment’ or anything in the likes of that. And as a custom they make the same inappropriate jokes they make every year.

This year for a moment it looked like i could have answered their question differently.
Because for a moment i thought i found someone. To make a long story short …
I saw someone i thought was interesting, so i fussed about it for weeks and i finally managed to ask him out. Then we went on a date and he was really interesting and we had a lot of common interests and whatnot. At the end of the date i kissed him, we kissed.
We planned another date, all went smoothly until that one horrid moment when he got my name wrong. The man is completely infatuated with me, to the extreme as where he can’t take his eyes off me ( which kinda bothered me near the end), and then he gets my name wrong … Yes that kinda stuff happens, yes he might have been tired, but still.
Maybe i’m just the one making excuses, but in the end there was no spark at all, not from my side anyways. And please don’t think i’m judging the man just because he got my name wrong ( and i really haven’t given enough background info but this post would get to damn long if i did), because i really do like him a lot, but maybe just not enough.

So no dear family i am not currently dating anyone, so no i don’t know if they have a rich father. And i certainly don’t care what you think about me being single, or what my future husband should be like.

Maybe it’s a bit early but happy holidays everybody 🙂
let’s all enjoy the festivities and good food ^^

Elements – renegade

This is the first single (& videoclip at that) of a great upcoming Belgian band, Elements.
They are the continuation of a well known Belgian new wave band Red Zebra.
Elements is all about modern sounds with a melancholic feel.

I’m really chuffed about this and i hope you guys have a listen/look ! 🙂
also check out their facebook !

Charity shop treasures.

Saw this beauty in the charity shop earlier this week. And I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s an old telephone table/chair. It was 35 euros so really cheap and I would have bought it but sadly I have no room to put it. This version looks pretty new, but I have seen a similar one with red fabric and brown woodwork. Absolutely gorgeous ! I hope I can own one of these some day.

DIY of the day, my Mona Lisa

2 days ago I went with my aunt to go clear out her mother in law’s house, because she went into a nursing home and stuff. She basically said if I wanted anything that I could have it. Super exciting right !

I didn’t bring home a lot of stuff because I don’t want to seem to greedy 😉 I brought home an oval mirror, beautiful piece (might post a picture of this later), a brass rococo/louis XIV plant holder and two frames. It’s with the frames I did a little DIY project. Sadly I forgot to take a before picture :/
This is how it looked like before ( the color and type of frame of course)

And this is the result:
I basically just painted all the gold rimmed parts with acrylic paint in hot pink ( it might need some touching up with black 😉 ), to make the whole thing a bit more modern. Seems pretty nice to me ^^ And now Lisa ( me xD) has a Mona Lisa ❤
