Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, it’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
I’ve always been intrigued by old books for so many reasons; they are mostly cheap, they smell old and musty and one way or another these books turn out to be so very different from the books that are written today. So when I last bought my books (see previous stacking the shelves post) I did some research into vintage penguin books. And of course that’s where i found my new collection to be :p I’ll sketch the context a bit.
During the period that Allen Lane ( founder of penguin books) was still alive, they published the penguin main series. This series contains 3000 books all numbered by publication date ( this was all before isbn numbers came out). The series consists of orange, blue, purple, pink, green & yellow books, the colors obviously meaning a different genre of book and the orange being the most frequent of all.
So i’ve started my collection with these 2 books. not first editions, but i will be looking out for those in the future. There are some great bloggers out there who already have a lot of them, there even is a blog which holds a catalogue of all the ones that belong in the series. And when I collect something I do it the proper way, so I joined the Penguin Collectors Society.
